Improving things with movement :) The Elusive Obvious
Awareness Through Movement one day workshop at the Gold Coast Art Centre
An opportunity to discover simple and effective ways to move with ease through life.
Peter Binns, Australia’s leading Feldenkrais practitioner, will visit the Gold Coast to teach an Awareness Through Movement workshop at the Gold Coast Arts Centre on 5 December. The workshop will focus on how to refine and improve the quality, range and comfort of movement regardless of age and ability.
"Awareness Through Movement workshops can produce an astounding change in the mind and body, used to reduce pain, increase flexibility and disorganise our bodily patterns of stress and the experience of stress itself. Like learning to ride a bike, when you 'get it' you have it for good." Peter Binns
If you've never tried Feldenkrais before, this is the perfect introduction no matter your level of physical fitness. The workshop will be taught with clear, simple instructions that show you how to fly below the radar of faulty habits and previous conditioning. Participants in the workshop will learn: How to avoid patterns of effort that lead to injury and back trouble. How to organise the head and pelvis for more harmonious effort. What your ribs have to do with back pain. How strength in the back comes from length in the back. Which patterns cause back pain and which create vitality and ease.
Peter Binns, Founder and Director of the Australian Feldenkrais Center in Melbourne, a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner with over 20 years experience both here and overseas Peter has worked with tens of thousands of people including some of Australia's leading musicians, dancers, Olympic athletes, world champion extreme athletes and many others, also people suffering from acute and chronic pain both with one on one Functional Integration sessions and group Awareness Through Movement classes.
The Feldenkrais Method was developed by Dr Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984), a distinguished physicist and engineer, as a way to teach himself to walk after severe knee injuries. The method combines gentle movement with awareness training to improve the coordination of the whole self in action. It has grown into an internationally acclaimed system of human movement and learning.
